Aker Solutions invested in floating wind power technology company Principle Power Inc., forming an alliance that brings its offshore oil and gas field engineering expertise into a fast-growing renewable energy market.

Some 7,000 miles separates Ireland and Hawaii but, as island peoples, both have always looked to their respective oceans for resources, inspiration and opportunity. Irish company Ocean Energy announced its pioneering wave energy convertor “OE Buoy” will be built by Oregon‐ based Vigor and deployed at the US Navy’s Wave Energy Test Site on the windward coast of the Hawaiian Island of O’ahu in the fall of 2018.

BP has announced two new exploration discoveries in the North Sea. The discoveries are Capercaillie, in Block 29/4e in the Central North Sea, and Achmelvich, in Block 206/9b west of Shetland. BP is 100% owner of Capercaillie and the Achmelvich well partnership comprises BP (operator, 52.6%), Shell (28%) and Chevron (19.4%).

Shell Offshore Inc. (“Shell”) announces one of its largest U.S. Gulf of Mexico exploration finds in the past decade from the Whale deep-water well. The well encountered more than 1,400 net feet (427 meters) of oil bearing pay. Evaluation of the discovery is ongoing, and appraisal drilling is underway to further delineate the discovery and define development options.

Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) announces a significant oil discovery at the Ballymore prospect in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

The EU-funded FORESEA programme has approved funding for six developers of offshore renewable energy technologies to deploy technologies at the SmartBay Marine and Renewable Energy Test Site.

The Carbon Trust has announced the winners of its latest innovation competition to find novel methods to inspect offshore wind substructures. The competition, launched as part of the Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator programme, targeted companies with new or adaptable techniques for inspection of offshore wind foundations.

Statoil has, on behalf of the license partners, awarded EPC contracts for the delivery of subsea production systems and services for the Troll Phase 3 project in the North Sea and the Askeladd project in the Barents Sea, respectively, to Aker Solutions. The contracts have a total estimated value of between NOK 1.5-2 billion kroner. The contracts include installation and commissioning support services.

Ocean Power Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:OPTT) announces that the Company has signed an agreement with Premier Oil (LSE:PMO), an international oil and gas company, to study the feasibility of using the PB3 PowerBuoy for decommissioning operations in the North Sea.

Deep Sea Mooring (DSM), a Vryhof company, has commenced operations with the newly awarded contract to provide pre-lay mooring products and services to the Deepsea Bergen semisubmersible drilling rig on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Austrian oil & gas company OMV has deployed the semi-submersible rig to support drilling activities in the region.
