BSEE Conducts First-Ever Unannounced Exercise for Offshore Wind

As the lead federal agency for the development of workplace safety and environmental compliance strategies for offshore conventional and renewable energy projects on the federal Outer Continental Shelf, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) conducted the first-ever Government Initiated Unannounced Exercise (GIUE) of an offshore renewable energy facility. The GIUE at Vineyard Wind’s Marine Coordination Center in New Bedford, Massachusetts, successfully evaluated Vineyard Wind’s ability to activate an incident management team and carry out the procedures in their approved oil spill response plans.

A survey by Westwood Global Energy Group (Westwood), the specialist energy market research and consultancy firm, reveals a lack of standardization of floating technology (55%), manufacturing capability and capacity (51%) and port infrastructure (50%) as the most commonly cited major hurdles and risks to floating offshore wind progress, indicating a need for accelerated investment, regulation and supply chain co-ordination globally for the sector to achieve its ambitions.

RWE to Build Wind Farms with Capacity of 1.6 GW Off German North Sea Coast

RWE has made the investment decision for its Nordseecluster, involving offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 1.6 gigawatts (GW). The wind farms will be built in the North Sea, about 50 kilometers north of the island of Juist. Suppliers of the main components have already been selected for the cluster as a whole.

Iberdrola Seeks Startups to Inspect and Digitize Its Wind Farms

Iberdrola's commitment to offshore wind farms is absolute. Europe's largest electricity company by stock market value, with around 80 billion euros, will invest around 15.5 billion euros in renewables between 2024 and 2026, 54% of which will go to offshore wind in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. Through the PERSEO startup program, the company is looking for solutions to improve its offshore wind installations with fully autonomous or remote-controlled equipment.

Petrobas Awards Seatrium FPSO Newbuild Contracts

Petrobras signed contracts with Seatrium O&G Americas Limited to acquire the P-84 and P-85 vessel platforms. Both units will be self-owned and installed in the Atapu and Sépia fields, respectively, in ultra-deep waters of the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, with first oil date between 2029 and 2030.
