Under the agreement, APT will provide geochemical and biostratigraphic analyses including interpretation of drilling samples and other reservoir data.
The first wells that APT will analyse are the 15/12-25 and 15/12-26 exploration wells in production license 973, located close to the UK border in the southern North Sea. Chrysaor is the operator on both wells.
“We have supported Chrysaor on the UKCS in the past as well as on the Norwegian continental shelf. We look forward to providing value to Chrysaor’s exploration efforts through our extensive NCS knowledge and experience,” says Geir Hansen, APT’s head of petroleum geochemistry.
Over the past 20 years, Applied Petroleum Technology has built up what is probably the world’s most advanced laboratory within geochemistry services. Located in Oslo, the laboratory offers the oil and gas market’s shortest delivery time for geochemical analyses. In addition, clients are able to tap into 20 years of geochemical analyses to quickly identify deviations – positive or negative – of their drilling samples.
APT will also conduct for the first time biostratigraphic analyses for Chrysaor. Biostratigraphy involves the dating of rocks, supported by fossils, and is mandatory for all exploration wells drilled on the Norwegian continental shelf. The purpose is to help improve clients’ confidence and geological control.
Dr. Marie-Caroline Blanc, general manager of APT’s biostratigraphy department.
“We look forward to supporting Chrysaor on the two first exploration wells and in the coming years. APT is the only Norwegian company that can provide the personnel and all necessary equipment to run complete wellsite biostratigraphy services during biosteering for horizontal drilling and whole-well monitoring in wildcat areas, as well as onshore routine biostratigraphy,” says Dr. Marie-Caroline Blanc, general manager of APT’s biostratigraphy department.
Applied Petroleum Technology provides geochemical and biostratigraphic laboratory services, basin modelling and petroleum systems analysis to operators worldwide. The company is headquartered in Oslo, Norway, and has additional offices in the UK, USA and Canada.
