The Marine Technology Society is pleased to announce the re-election of Justin Manley to its Board of Directors as Vice President of Government and Public Affairs. Election results were announced at the Society’s Annual Meeting during OCEANS’13 MTS/IEEE Conference this month in San Diego, CA.
Justin Manley has worked with marine technology since 1990: for his family marine salvage business, as a principal in the development of autonomous vehicles at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and as a consultant to the federal government, notably NOAA’s Office of Ocean Exploration and Research. He led scientific and commercial business for Liquid Robotics, rapidly expanding opportunities for the energy-harvesting unmanned surface vehicle, the Wave Glider. In 2011 Justin joined Teledyne Benthos as Senior Director of Business Development. He is responsible for advancing a diverse product portfolio and leads the development of a networked systems approach across Teledyne Marine Systems, which includes Benthos, Webb Research and Gavia. He has developed and deployed marine technology in academic, public and private sectors and published widely on marine technology topics, especially those that cross technology/policy lines. He earned degrees (S.M. and S.B. Ocean Engineering, S.B. History) at MIT. Justin is a Senior Member of IEEE, a long serving volunteer leader for MTS and a member of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Advisory Committee.
