TELE-FONIKA Kable (TFK) a global supplier of wire and cable systems for the renewable energy sector, alongside JDR Cable Systems (JDR), a global subsea cable and umbilical supplier, have been awarded a contract with ORLEN Group and Northland Power for the Baltic Power wind farm in Poland.

Together with partners NKT and DEME Offshore, they will design, manufacture, and install 340km of land and subsea cables – enabling the project to provide clean electricity to more than 1.5 million households in Poland.

Located 23km to the north of the Polish coastline, on the level of Choczewo and Łeba, Baltic Power has a wind farm area of approximately 130 square kilometers which will feature 76 wind turbines each with a generating capacity of 15 MW. The project is scheduled to be fully operational by 2026 and aims to generate 1.2 GW – providing vital clean energy to Poland.

jdr TFKableTFK will manufacture and install 230kV land power cables and cores for inter-array cables at its manufacturing facility in Bydgoszcz. As a consortium partner, NKT will develop the offshore export cables for the project – delivering power from the offshore substations to the shore. TFK will manage the transportation and installation of the onshore cable section within the Baltic wind farm.

At its state-of-the-art Hartlepool facility in the UK, JDR will design and manufacture 66kV inter-array cables, that will be used to connect the 76 offshore turbines to the offshore substation. DEME Offshore will be responsible for the transportation and installation of all subsea cables.

The manufacture and delivery of all cables will be completed by the end of 2025.

Piotr Mirek, Member of the Management Board at TELE-FONIKA Kable and Board Director of the Supply Chain and Investment Office at JDR Cable Systems, commented: “Baltic Power is an innovative wind energy project which will support the acceleration of our energy transition in Poland. Our power house of capabilities covering both subsea and land cables have enabled us to secure this contract and we are delighted to be able to supply the high-quality assets that will support in delivering clean energy to millions of homes across Poland. Our collaboration with NKT and DEME Offshore will bolster these efforts – providing clean energy for future generations.”

The contract comes as part of Poland’s energy transition ambitions as it aims to develop offshore wind energy in the Polish Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea, with a capacity of approx. 5.9 GW in 2030 and up to 11 GW in 2040.

Since 2007, JDR and TFK have been leaders in offshore wind. They began by supplying 33 kV inter-array cables to groundbreaking UK projects, including Greater Gabbard and London Array. In 15 years, they’ve delivered over 4,000 km of subsea cables, enabling the transmission of 22 GW of offshore wind power, representing ca. 36% of the total capacity of nearly 60 GW. They also pioneered 66 kV inter-array cables including subsea dynamic power cables for offshore floating windfarms and celebrated their 50th offshore wind farm cable contract in 2022, contributing to global wind farms in the US, Taiwan, and the UK / Europe.
