Mission Specialist Wraith an Evolution in ROV Technology

VideoRay’s newly launched Mission Specialist Wraith represents the next evolution of remotely operated vehicle (ROV) performance, engineered for missions that demand exceptional agility, power, and adaptability in a compact platform. As the emerging flagship of the Mission Specialist series, the Wraith is designed to tackle the most challenging subsea environments with precision and control unmatched in its class.

Equipped with 10 powerful thrusters, the Wraith delivers true six Degrees-of-Freedom (DOF) maneuverability—enabling it to navigate and hold any attitude, whether upside down, sideways, or vertical. With up to 80 pounds of forward thrust, the Wraith offers direct-to-target transit and precise station-keeping in turbulent conditions, allowing operators to execute complex tasks faster and more efficiently. This advanced thrust technology also eliminates the need for clump weights, drop weights, garages or cages and reduces dive and surface times when operating at extreme depths, dramatically improving mission productivity.

SEAMLESS ADAPTABILITY

The Wraith’s modular, open-architecture design exemplifies the Mission Specialist philosophy of flexibility and field serviceability, enabling rapid configuration changes, plug-and-play third-party integrations, and easy maintenance in demanding conditions. Whether outfitted with advanced imaging, navigation, or manipulator systems, Wraith adapts seamlessly to diverse mission requirements—from inspection and recovery to defense and scientific exploration.

Building on the proven success of its predecessors, Wraith also offers a larger frame and enhanced payload capacity, allowing operators to deploy more sophisticated sensors and tooling for the completion of complex underwater operations. Its rugged construction and portability ensure reliable performance in environments ranging from offshore infrastructure and wreck investigations to expeditionary defense applications.

PROGRESSIVE ENGINEERING

Wraith’s Expeditionary configuration is the first in a planned series of spiral development efforts, with each iteration expanding system capability, performance, and mission versatility. This progressive approach ensures the Wraith platform will continue to evolve over the coming years, incorporating emerging technologies and customer- driven innovations to stay at the forefront of subsea operations.

FEATURES

6 Degrees-of-Freedom maneuverability (native software control): Allows for precise maneuvering in any orientation—vertical, inverted, or sideways—enabling complex subsea tasks without limitations.

High transit speed (~12 minutes to 1 km): Rapid response reduces transit time and increases operational efficiency in time-sensitive missions.

Depth rating: 1,000 m: Operates effectively in both shallow and extreme depths, extending mission reach and capability.

Increased size and payload capacity: Expands mission flexibility by supporting heavier tools, sensors, and advanced payloads.

10 thrusters with 80 lbs forward thrust: Provides unmatched power and stability in strong currents and confined spaces, ensuring confidence in challenging environments.

Modular architecture (compatible with all Mission Specialist products): Simplifies maintenance and logistics with interchangeable Mission Specialist modules and thrusters, reducing lifecycle costs and ensuring fleet sustainment.

Open architecture for third-party integration: Supports seamless integration of customer-selected sensors and tooling, creating a customizable platform tailored to mission-specific needs.
