PMI specializes in cable assemblies and hardware used in electrical, optical, pressure, and mechanical applications. PMI’s solutions are used on cable systems for impact and abrasion protection, to prevent bending and provide strain relief, and for dynamic and static cable protection.
Products include high-strength cable terminations and gripping products, towed array and seismic survey lead-in and umbilical terminations, and cable assemblies and hardware. Markets served include US Navy and defense contractors; oil and gas/seismic survey; ocean (marine) exploration/university and research institutes; and subsea communications.
POISED FOR EXPANSION
PMI moved to a new facility in Cleveland in January 2023. The move increased production and testing space by more than two-thirds, removed manufacturing constraints, and improved capabilities, resulting in better lead times and inventory control. The move also positioned the company to grow in the industries served, increase product and service offerings to customers, and expand geographic reach.
Also in January 2023, PMI successfully completed an external audit, by Smithers Quality Assessments, Inc., of its Quality Management System. This certification is valid for three years and reflects the company’s longstanding commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and its customers. It also demonstrates the significant effort by the PMI team to continue to uphold the ISO standard throughout the company.
DEEP INNOVATION
In August 2024, the company introduced a Fiber Optic Splice Kit. The innovative kit ensures a waterproof splice, while terminating each end of the cable, making it secure even in the harshest environments.
The Fiber Optic Splice Kit can be installed anywhere along the cable to create an exceptionally reliable, full ocean-depth splice with multiple levels of sealing protection.

PMI was presented with a unique project by a new customer to develop and produce a specialized fiber optic underwater splice kit. With a tight timeline, it was an all-hands effort by the engineering, sales, and supply chain management teams. By leveraging the design engineers’ knowledge and in-house testing capabilities, the company was able to validate the innovative design and exceed the customers’ requirements. PMI excels at collaborating closely with customers and suppliers to ensure high quality, performance, and timely delivery.
In 2025, PMI is poised for further growth of the business with the development of new products and services, obtaining new customers, expansion into new geography, and strategic acquisitions. The company regularly attends and exhibits at industry conferences such as IMAGE, EAGE, OEEC, and Ocean Business.
