Donostia/San Sebastian to Host ICOE-OEE 2022, The World’s Leading Ocean Energy Event

The “International Conference on Ocean Energy & Ocean Energy Europe 2022” (ICOE-OEE 2022), the world's leading ocean energy event, will bring together ocean energy professionals and decision-makers from all corners of the globe to Donostia/San Sebastian, from 18-20 October. The event is co-organized by the Basque Energy Cluster Association (ACE) and Ocean Energy Europe (OEE).

The conference will feature an ambitious technical program with 21 sessions and nearly 150 speakers from all over the world, from the leading ocean energy companies, R&D players and public institutions that are spearheading the development of these promising alternative energy sources.

The President of the Basque Government, Iñigo Urkullu, and the mayor of Donostia/San Sebastian, Eneko Goia, will welcome the participants and underline the Basque Country’s commitment to developing ocean energy.

The 3-day conference will present the most cutting-edge projects in the sector, as well as sessions focusing on technological innovation, new market opportunities and future development strategies.

Alongside the sessions, the event will feature an international exhibition with more than 50 exhibitors, showcasing ocean energy key industry players from Spain, Canada, Scotland, USA, France, the UK and more.

Technical visits to BiMEP and the wave generation plant in Mutriku will take place following the event on Friday 21 October. B2B meetings, a welcome reception and a gala dinner at the María Cristina Hotel will offer additional networking opportunities.

The European Commission has set a target of 1 GW by 2030 (together with 60 GW of offshore wind) for wave and tidal energy in its Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy. These figures could be a decisive boost in terms of generating the economies of scale that will lead to significant growth in the sector over the coming decades.
