The 2nd Gulf of Mexico Coral Reef Symposium Takes Place in November

The 2nd Gulf of Mexico Coral Reef Symposium takes place on November 2-3, 2023 to discuss the current state of Gulf of Mexico reefs and identify research needs for Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (FGBNMS). Experts in coral reef science and management will gather information on current and past research on the northern Gulf of Mexico reefs, establish region-wide research goals (especially at FGBNMS), and facilitate interdisciplinary research collaborations.

Through a series of “lightning talks” and collaborative breakouts, participants will draft a detailed list of research topics and questions that need to be addressed, as well as suggested research and management efforts. This will serve as a valuable resource for scientists, managers, and conservation organizations working to protect and restore coral reefs in the Gulf of Mexico.
