The Safety Practice Award recognizes specific technologies, approaches, methods, or projects with direct and demonstrable impacts on improving safety. The Culture of Safety Award honors overall organizational immersion in and commitment to safety, which has resulted in remarkable, measurable, and sustained safety performance over a prolonged period of time.
NOIA President Erik Milito congratulated SLB and LLOG saying, “Success is not attained in isolation; rather, it’s a rising tide that uplifts everyone. The diverse range of companies participating in the Safety in Seas competition underscores the collective dedication to safety performance, innovation, and culture across the entire offshore energy service and supply chain, spanning all energy segments. We commend SLB and LLOG for their outstanding entries, which exemplify a shared commitment to enhancing the human element of safety, among other things. From leveraging neuroscience and behavioral sciences to fostering a culture of empowered safety, their respective initiatives are marked by compelling success metrics. I extend my gratitude to SLB, LLOG, and all Safety in Seas entrants for their robust submissions and steadfast dedication to safety and innovation.”
Eric Zimmermann, COO of LLOG, said, “In our nearly 50 years of operation, LLOG has built its reputation as a trusted operator with a commitment to safe practices, environmental stewardship, and adhering to the highest ethical standards. As a private company, we have fostered a culture that treats our employees and contractors as family. We attribute our success to our talented workforce and our adherence to activities focused with the utmost regard for the well-being of those team members. We are proud to be the recipients of the NOIA Culture of Safety Award and for the industry at large to recognize our employees’ uncompromising commitment to safety every day.”
Wallace Pescarini, President Offshore Atlantic for SLB, said, “At SLB, we have a long history of innovation—not only in technology and performance, but also in driving continuous improvement of safety practices for our people and operations around the world. We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to safety and it is our sincere hope that our experiences can help others to continue improving the safety of their operations for the collective benefit of all. We compete in many arenas, but safety is one where we work together across companies and sectors and it is thanks to the commitments, collaborations, and integrity of our people, our partners, and our customers to speak up, that we have achieved these milestones.”
Devan Raj, Vice President HSE for SLB, said, “For almost a century, our people have been at the forefront of technological development in the energy sector. Throughout that time, a constant focus has been working safely for our people, operations, customers, suppliers, and communities. Today, we have a risk-based approach that enables us to identify, and proactively address, key safety risks. That’s why our internal standard is to be “not just safe, but SLB safe!” It is a great honor to be recognized for our efforts by NOIA, and we hope that our work will inform and inspire others in their own safety programs.”
The award-winning entries from LLOG and SLB were evaluated by an independent panel of judges from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and two industry safety consultants.
NOIA has held the SIS awards competition since 1978 to recognize those who contribute to improving the safety of life in the offshore energy industry. The awards are sponsored by Compass Publications.
