The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project has entered a new partnership with Revelare Hydrospatial, a specialist in hydrographic and geophysical surveys. This collaboration will strengthen efforts to create a comprehensive map of the ocean floor.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at Seabed 2030’s Pacific Ocean Mapping Meeting in Nadi, Fiji, which brought together a diverse range of participants to address the unique ocean mapping needs across the vast Pacific region. Against this collaborative backdrop, Seabed 2030 Director Jamie McMichael-Phillips and Revelare Hydrospatial’s Principal Geophysicist, Dr. Elizabeth Johnstone, formalized the partnership.

Jamie McMichael-Phillips said: “Partnering with Revelare Hydrospatial marks a significant step in our work to achieve a complete map of the world’s ocean. Revelare’s expertise in both hydrography and geophysics will enhance our efforts—especially in the South Pacific, where accurate ocean mapping and geohazard data can support regional safety and sustainable development.”

Based in Australia, Revelare Hydrospatial’s work empowers the maritime community to safely navigate marine environments with precise, real-time geophysical data. Dr. Elizabeth Johnstone said: “We are excited to participate in this initiative, especially with so much left to be discovered and surveyed in the South Pacific region. Our team is ready to bring our talent and technology to support Seabed 2030’s global vision.

“By contributing to this project, we’re helping deliver crucial insights that enable Pacific communities to deepen their understanding of marine and terrestrial connections, better prepare for geohazards, and protect essential marine ecosystems.”

Seabed 2030 is a collaborative project between The Nippon Foundation and the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO), which seeks to inspire the complete mapping of the world’s ocean by 2030 and to compile all the data into the freely available GEBCO Ocean Map. The Project is formally endorsed as a Decade Action of the UN Ocean Decade. GEBCO is a joint program of the IHO and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and is the only organization with a mandate to map the entire ocean floor.

All data collected and shared with the Seabed 2030 project will be included in the free and publicly available GEBCO global grid.
