Designed to demonstrate the South Coast’s marine credentials to the world, the expo brings together decision makers, innovators and enterprises involved in the latest advances in marine technology with a focus on autonomous applications and sustainable marine developments.
Organized by Plymouth City Council with the support of key industry partners from across the city, the event is moving to a virtual format this year due to coronavirus.
The conference will provide a platform for businesses to showcase, network and collaborate with the world class marine technology sector that exists in the South West.
Leader of Plymouth City Council, Councillor Nick Kelly said: “The Marine Tech Expo gives us a unique opportunity to showcase the strength of the marine and maritime industries here in Britain’s Ocean City. We’re proud to be home to such an incredible array of businesses and research institutions that are creating ground-breaking new technologies and changing the world around us for the better.
“The event also offers a fantastic opportunity for business leaders to network and keep up to date with the newest industry innovations.”
Day one of the expo (12 July) will explore the application of autonomy in marine science and the commercial world through a series of talks. Day two (13 July) will be centred on sustainability within the marine world, with discussions covering methods of propulsion, energy sources and our impact on the ocean environment.
Attendees only need to book one free ticket, giving them access to the fascinating range of presentations. Keynote speakers include:
- Richard May, Head of Oceansgate and Marine Investment at Plymouth City Council
- Brigadere Dan Cheeseman, Member of the Navy Executive Committee
- Di Gilpin, Smart Green Shipping
- Simon Cheesman, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult; Wave & Tidal Energy Sector Specialist
Delegates will also be able to engage directly with a broad range of businesses through an online exhibition, showcasing the latest marine technology developments. Drop-in sessions will be held throughout the conference, but there’s also the option to set up 1-to-1 session for in-depth discussions.
In addition to this will be live-steamed, in-sea demonstrations of autonomous vehicles, showcasing their capabilities. The demonstrations themselves will take place in Plymouth’s Smart Sound proving range, which is set to be the UK’s first 5G enabled marine autonomy testbed.
The first Marine Tech Expo was held in 2016 and was a sell-out success, with the second being held in 2018. This year’s event is free and will take place entirely online, opening it up to an international audience.
