Over 200 defense sector leaders from across the country came together this week for an in-person collaborative “Industry Day” coordinated by the Undersea Technology Innovation Consortium (UTIC).

Keynote addresses were delivered by RDML Michael Van Poots, Commander at the Undersea Warfighting Development Center, and Mr. Michael Cockey, Deputy Director of Undersea Warfare at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC). RDML Van Poots highlighted key technology areas of interest to the Navy and spoke of the need for speed of relevance, but with deliberation. Mr. Cockey gave an overview of the US strategic competition environment.

This members-only semi-annual event connected industry with a focus on undersea technology with US Navy leaders and partners to learn about opportunities to develop technology prototypes in support of the Navy.

Since its inception, UTIC has released 116 topics and made 97 awards to 66 different awardees worth approximately $800 million. Currently, UTIC has approximately 300 member companies—the majority of which are small businesses or non-traditional organizations.

“UTIC members, including small and large companies and academia/nonprofits, had the opportunity to engage and interact in person with Navy technical leaders at the industry day event,” said Molly Donohue Magee, UTIC’s Chief Executive Officer.

“This gathering of government and industry promotes valuable collaboration, allowing our members to stay in tune with specific challenges faced by the Navy and showcase their innovative solutions,” added Magee.

UTIC manages the consortium in support of the Other Transaction Authority (OTA) Agreement with NUWC, allowing members to work collaboratively with the US government in responding to national security and defense needs by delivering new technology and services faster than traditional federal acquisition requirements often permit.
