SAMI, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund, explained that this achievement is the result of the efforts of Saudi engineers, both male, and female, who worked on developing the new system at the Naval Systems Integration and Development Center of Excellence (NSID) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
She stated that the new system, “Light Packs,” targets ships with limited combat capabilities or with spatial restrictions or space constraints, and this system can be used and installed in new ships or incorporated into existing modern ship systems.
She explained that the new system is one of the latest technologies in the core of the combat system, as it is derived from the “HAZEM CMS” system, but it is intended for ships with medium combat capabilities while maintaining the main features of the “HAZEM” system, which are to provide an open, scalable, customizable, interoperable and competitive solution, and its effectiveness and strength have been proven.
SAMI Navantia Chairman Dr. Mohammed Al-Qahtani explained that the new “Hazm Light” system is a simplified version of the advanced combat system management solution previously used in the Sarawat Project ships, which creates smaller platforms with different missions and capabilities. The new “Hazm Light” system is the first product developed in the Kingdom and will meet the need to improve the category of ships with medium combat capabilities.
He pointed out that this achievement falls within the framework of SAMI Navantia’s efforts to contribute to localizing more than 50% of military spending by 2030, one of the main goals of the Kingdom’s ambitious vision, and to participate effectively in developing the capabilities of the specialized technical workforce in the Kingdom, and developing world-class combat systems solutions, in line with the efforts of the General Authority for Military Industries towards localizing military spending in the Kingdom.
He noted that SAMI Navantia Marine Industries contributes to enhancing the readiness of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces, the Border Guard, and other local or regional clients in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 by launching a new era of advanced and effective defense capabilities to confront existing and future challenges while increasing the strength of the local, national military industry.
He stated that the new product meets the needs of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces, the Border Guard, and the regional market for medium-capacity vessels. SAMI Navantia will also continue to develop world-class combat systems for small boats, such as high-speed interceptors and patrol boats, which are ready to integrate new sensors and weapons based on customer requirements.
