Following the shock tests completed in October for the diesel generator, the main switchboard, and the fuel purifier module, these tests complete all the tests planned to be carried out on barges for the F110 Program propulsive system.
Once again, the tests were carried out on the barge “Shock Test Vehicle STV02” that Thornton Tomasetti Defence Ltd (TTDL) uses for this type of shock test at the Limehillock facilities (Scotland).
The success of these tests highlights Navantia’s capacity to qualify the ship’s equipment against the most demanding levels of combat survivability and confirms the capacity of its supplier, Ingeteam, for the design and manufacture of electrical naval propulsion equipment, both frequency converter and electric motor, these being capable of withstanding adverse external conditions, maintaining the required operating conditions.
The work team included representatives from Navantia and TTDL, as well as Ingeteam, the manufacturer of the equipment tested. Representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the F110 Program Office of the Directorate General of Armament and Material (DGAM), and the North American company Element, which acts as a third party for Defence, guarantee the correlation between the test carried out in Scotland (British regulations) and the one to be carried out in the USA (MIL regulations), were also present.
All the equipment subjected to the barge shock tests in Scotland has been transported by sea and returned to Navantia’s shipyard in Ferrol, from where they will be sent to their respective factories of origin for reconditioning and additional factory tests.
