The license application was accompanied by a thorough and comprehensive environmental impact assessment, which shows that the project has no significant negative impact on the environment. This conclusion is in line with that of the Dutch environmental impact report, the most comprehensive study ever carried out on the environmental impact of a gas extraction project in the Netherlands.
Two Countries with the Same Responsibility
Chris de Ruyter van Steveninck, CEO ONE-Dyas, commented: “Getting the go-ahead in both the Netherlands and Germany shows we are doing the right thing and that we have developed the project convincingly. The transition to 100 % renewable energies takes time. As long as there is local demand for natural gas, we will ensure that it is produced with the smallest carbon footprint possible. The approvals we have received are mutual commitment to ensuring energy supply, facilitating the energy transition, and achieving the goals of the climate agreement in a safe and responsible manner.”
First Natural Gas at the End of 2024
ONE-Dyas aims to supply the first natural gas to Dutch and German households by the end of 2024. The preparatory work for this is in full swing. The N05-A platform was installed in the Dutch part of the North Sea on August 6, 2024. It will be powered exclusively by CO2-free wind energy from the nearby German offshore wind farm Riffgat. Emissions during the production phase are, therefore, near-zero—a significant step towards a sustainable and climate-neutral energy supply.
