SPE Offshore Europe 2019: Over 35,000 Visitors Expected

As the global climate change debate heats up and the oil and gas industry embrace a more digitalized and sustainable role in the energy transition, leaders and innovators from across the energy mix will unite at SPE Offshore Europe 2019 in Aberdeen.

Over four days, from 3-6 September, world-class speakers, leading academics and technology transformers, will converge at the new £333 million P&J Live event complex. Under the theme: ‘Breakthrough to excellence – our license to operate’ delegates will listen, learn and be part of discussions to tackle the industry’s current challenges and promote future opportunities.

The 2019 conference chair, Michael Borrell, Total’s Senior Vice President, North Sea and Russia, and SPE President, Sami Alnuaim from Saudi Aramco, are expected to welcome more than 35,000 visitors and 900 exhibitors to the free-to-attend biennial exhibition and conference.

“We have a truly world-class selection of speakers at this year’s SPE Offshore Europe conference,” explained Michael Borrell. “As well as leaders from the oil and gas industry, such as Patrick Pouyanné, President and CEO of Total, we also have senior international figures from the climate change debate. This will allow us to have a really high-quality discussion about our license to operate and the future of energy.”

The executive keynote address will be delivered by Patrick Pouyanné, President & CEO of Total. Wael Sawan, Shell’s Upstream Director; Doug Pferdehirt, TechnipFMC CEO; Karl Johnny Hersvik CEO of AkerBP and Hinda Gharbi, Schlumberger’s Executive Vice President Reservoir & Infrastructure will form the opening plenary panel alongside Christiana Figueres, former UNFCCC Executive Secretary and Convenor of Mission 2020.

Senior international industry figures will co-chair the keynote sessions which include energy transition, artificial intelligence and the transformation of the workforce as well as decommissioning and late life, underwater innovation, transformative technologies to lower the carbon footprint, digital security, integrated technologies, digitalisation, standardisation and finance.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with technical experts from more than 900 companies on the exhibition floor, from international market leaders to new, innovative technology companies.

In addition to the main show floor, exhibitor and presentation areas will be dedicated to late life and decommissioning and to start-up companies. An ENGenious Zone will highlight innovations in robotics, data analytics, automation and advanced communications ahead of the next standalone ENGenious conference and exhibition in Aberdeen in 2020.

Attendees can expand their technical knowledge with exceptional insight and best practice at the industry’s largest free-to-attend conference. The content, produced in association with SPE, will comprise four days of keynote, technical, financial and special sessions enabling delegates to stay informed and competitive.

In addition to breakfast briefings and topical lunches, more than 50 technical papers will be presented. Speakers representing government organisations, service companies and E&P majors including Total, Shell, Premier Oil, DNV GL, TechnipFMC, Chevron, BHGE, Equinor, Weatherford, Halliburton, Schlumberger and NOV, among others will present and discuss the topics most relevant to Europe’s offshore sector.

For the first time, SPE Offshore Europe is partnering with the Financial Times to host a one-day finance-focused conference with the theme ‘Securing the Future in a Rapidly Evolving Energy Landscape’. Sir Ian Wood will give the opening keynote, taking to the stage with senior leaders from operators including BP, Equinor, Lundin Petroleum, Neptune Energy, Repsol and Siccar Point as well as representatives from the International Energy Industry (IEA), investment banks and advisers.
