CSA Ocean Sciences Expands Trinidad and Tobago Operations with New Hires

Dr. Himawatee Baboolal joins CSA Ocean Sciences as Project Scientist and Shem Manickchand as Technician

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA), an international marine environmental consulting firm, today announced the appointment of two new hires to their Trinidad and Tobago operations–Dr. Himawatee Baboolal to the position of Project Scientist III and Mr. Shem Manickchand as Technician.

Based out of the company’s Port of Spain office, Dr. Baboolal and Mr. Manickchand will both play instrumental roles in the design, implementation, and analysis of a range of multidisciplinary marine survey projects, including environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs), geophysical and geotechnical surveys, oceanographic deployments, and environmental baseline and long-term monitoring survey campaigns.

Dr. Baboolal holds a B.Sc. in Botany and Zoology from the University of the West Indies and a B.Sc. in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Greenwich in England. She was the national awardee of the BGTT 1999/2000 British Council/University of Strathclyde International Scholarship to pursue an M.Sc. in Environmental Science and subsequently graduated with Distinction. In 2021, Dr. Baboolal, a BPTT/University of Trinidad and Tobago Research Fellowship awardee, was conferred a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies and Applied Life Sciences.

Mr. Manickchand holds an M.Sc. in GIS and a B.Sc. in Surveying and Land Information from the University of the West Indies and has extensive experience in the geomatics industry and the collection of marine data to support onshore and offshore environmental studies. Most recently, he supported an environmental baseline survey conducted offshore Suriname by CSA in water depths of approximately 1,000 meters.
