EHS Today (Environment, Health, Safety) is a leading publication for safety professionals and leaders. CSA’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Director, Eirik Kydland, and Chief Operating Officer, Robert Mulcahy, attended the Safety Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas, to accept the prestigious award on behalf of CSA. In addition to accepting the award, Mr. Kydland and Mr. Mulcahy attended multiple safety-related workshops and lectures with industry leaders from around the country.
America’s Safest Companies, founded in 2002, is a corporate award honoring the safest companies in the United States. Since 2002, approximately 250 companies have clearly demonstrated their commitment to employee safety and health, environmental management, and risk control and have been honored as America’s Safest.
To be considered one of America’s Safest Companies, companies must demonstrate transformational EHS leadership in the form of support from management and employee involvement; innovative solutions to safety challenges; injury and illness rates significantly lower than the average for their industry; comprehensive training programs; evidence that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; excellent communication internally and externally about the value of safety; and provide a way to substantiate the benefits of the safety process.
CSA is no stranger to recognition of its advanced Safety Management System (SMS). In 2017, CSA received the Sunshine State Recognition Award from the University of South Florida for its efforts in implementing and maintaining an effective injury and illness prevention program, as documented during an onsite evaluation. The award is presented to companies who demonstrate a commitment to continuously improve the effectiveness of their SMS. The award fueled CSA’s motivation to further develop their Safety Culture with the goal of becoming industry leaders in safety—and those efforts are paying off. CSA is proud and honored to advance from statewide recognition to national recognition as one of America’s Safest Companies.
“Being recognized on a national scale for our commitment to safety is a tremendous honor for everyone at CSA. Everyone at CSA works diligently—on a daily basis—to ensure the safety of themselves and their colleagues. Safety is at the heart of everything we do—it’s our culture,” said Mr. Kydland. Mr. Mulcahy also commented; “This award demonstrates to our team that their commitment to our Safety Culture is effective, recognized, and appreciated. Furthermore, as safety becomes an increasingly significant factor in the selection and hiring of companies, this award demonstrates to our clients that when they hire CSA, they are hiring one of America’s Safest. We greatly appreciate EHS Today magazine for recognizing our efforts and achievements in safety.”
