Bergen-based Seaproof Solutions, a Balmoral company, has signed a long-term frame agreement with Danish operator Ørsted for the development, design and manufacture of cable protection systems (CPS) to be used on offshore wind farms.

The companies will participate in a cooperative process to continuously research and develop CPS designs and processes with the agreement initially running for six years.

Established in 1989 Seaproof Solutions designs and manufactures patented cable protection systems, bend stiffeners and flexible J-tubes predominantly for the offshore wind sector. The company’s technological market leading position in the offshore wind sector was “pivotal” in securing the agreement said Henrik Bang-Andreasen, Seaproof Solutions’ CEO.

“The new frame agreement will see an increase in shared values between Seaproof and Ørsted that will build on the experience gained by working together on the world’s biggest windfarm, the 1.2GW Hornsea Project One, offshore UK.”

Earlier this year Seaproof Solutions was acquired by offshore industry stalwart Balmoral Offshore Engineering. Since then the company’s R&D, design, engineering, technical and manufacturing capabilities have all enjoyed significant improvements.

Engineering and projects director at Aberdeen-based Balmoral, Fraser Milne, said: “We are delighted with the synergies between the two organisations and the improvements introduced to Seaproof’s processes and procedures.

“Seaproof’s capabilities are recognized across the offshore wind sector through their impressive track record of more than 1500 successful cable protection system installations while Balmoral’s R&D and innovation capability is renowned in the offshore energy sector.

“Both teams are benefiting from each other’s collective experience and the frame agreement with Ørsted is testament to our joint engineering and innovation heritage.”

The company will be exhibiting on the Norwegian Pavilion at WindEnergy Hamburg, 25-28 October 2018.
