The Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS) is the only global, multi-sector business leadership event dedicated to ocean sustainable development. Since 2010, the SOS has attracted ever-higher levels of industry representation from across the sectors. Click here to see the growing number of CEOs and other senior ocean industry stakeholder representatives who participate in the SOS.
The SOS is a working conference, engaging the international ocean business community in advancing leadership and collaboration to achieve industry-driven solutions to real sustainable development challenges. SOS outputs feed directly into the actions and work programs of the World Ocean Council (WOC) – the only multi-industry international business organization dedicated to implementing ocean sustainable development with and for the private sector.
The SOS 2018 theme of “Ocean Sustainable Development – Connecting Asia and the World”, recognizes:
- The major role that Asia plays in the global economy through trade and maritime transport.
- The size and growth of the economies and population of Asian countries.
- The national, regional and international importance of many key ocean industries in Asia, e.g. shipping, shipbuilding, fisheries, aquaculture, etc.
- The global inter-connectness of the ocean, the ocean economy and the ocean business community.
- The need to address ocean sustainable development and the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a global scale with all ocean business sectors.
The SOS 2018 program and topics are being developed with input from the business community. Speakers, session organizers and sponsorship opportunities will be announced soon.
The SOS uniquely brings together leadership companies from the diverse Ocean Business Community: shipping, oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, seabed mining, tourism, renewable energy, ports, dredging, mining, submarine cables, marine science, engineering and technology, the maritime legal, financial and insurance communities, and others – as well as ocean stakeholders from the government, inter-governmental, academic and environment communities.
