Dieseko Group Introduces Alternative to Heavy-Lift Vessels for Offshore Foundation Projects

Dieseko Group has introduced OPUS, a new Offshore Pile Upending System designed to reduce the offshore industry's reliance on scarce and expensive heavy-lift installation vessels. The patented concept combines pile storage, transfer, upending and vibro-driven installation into a single operational sequence and could reduce vessel-related costs up to 85% in large-scale anchor pile campaigns by enabling installation from more widely available offshore support vessels.

Across the offshore sector, project Developers, Operators and installation contractors face increasing pressure to deliver projects faster and more predictably while managing rising vessel costs. This challenge is particularly visible in offshore wind, offshore energy and decommissioning projects, where campaigns often involve tens or even hundreds of similar piles. By combining installation and extraction capability within a single methodology, Dieseko Group aims to support both new offshore developments and end-of-life infrastructure projects with OPUS.

Rising Pressure on Offshore Vessel Availability

Offshore contractors are increasingly competing for a limited pool of specialized installation vessels. As a result, premium installation vessels typically command day rates of €130,000 to €215,000, while rates in constrained markets can rise to as much as €450,000 per day. Yet according to Dieseko Group, many repetitive pile campaigns still rely on installation methods developed for heavy-lift operations, creating a dependency on specialized assets that are not always required for the pile classes involved.

Designed for Repetitive Pile Campaigns

OPUS was developed for high-volume offshore pile campaigns involving anchor piles and other stand-alone piles. The concept combines transport, storage, upending and installation into a single workflow that can be executed from more widely available vessel classes such as PSVs and AHTS. According to Dieseko’s modeling, a campaign involving 120 to 200 anchor piles could reduce vessel exposure by approximately 13 to 16 offshore days and save up to €5–6 million in vessel-related costs.

Growing Demand for Offshore Anchoring and Piling

Floating offshore wind, offshore energy, and decommissioning projects are expected to drive demand for efficient offshore piling solutions in the years ahead. “Offshore Developers, Operators and Contractors are under growing pressure to deliver projects faster, more predictably and with less dependency on scarce installation assets,” said Marco Wiedijk, Director Offshore at Dieseko Group. “We believe there is an opportunity to rethink how repetitive pile campaigns are executed, whether that is in offshore wind, offshore energy or decommissioning. OPUS is designed to reduce handling complexity and vessel dependency in exactly those environments, and we are actively looking for a partner to help validate and further develop the concept offshore.”
