Irish Sea Contractors to Grow Its Subsea Cables and Offshore Renewables Business with New Appointment

Irish Sea Contractors, a global subsea engineering organization, has appointed a new Managing Director, David Barrett, to lead the company and deliver on their growth strategy.

Barrett is a Chartered and Fellow Civil Engineer with over 20 years’ experience leading construction projects throughout Ireland, Europe and Asia-Pacific. The outgoing Managing Director, David Kinsella, will continue to play an active role as Chairman.

Irish Sea Contractors is a family-owned business based in Co. Wexford Ireland and specialises in subsea cable and marine engineering services. Delivering projects globally for some of the leading organizations in offshore renewables, telecommunications, oil and gas, ports, shipping, and construction engineering, the company continues to grow and deliver projects for international clients.

Welcoming the recent appointment, Chairman David Kinsella said, “I am delighted to announce David Barrett as the new Managing Director of Irish Sea Contractors. Subsea cables market

The company is experiencing a growing demand for nearshore and intertidal experience in subsea cable installation, burial and protection services. “We have a number of exciting projects lined up over the next few years as the volume of subsea cables installed across Europe continues to increase based on demands from data centres, telecommunications, offshore windfarms,” said Barrett. “Our team recently completed a subsea cable installation project between the UK and the Netherlands, and we’re seeing a demand for intertidal subsea cable expertise which our team has developed over the past number of years on projects across Europe”.

Irish Sea Contractors continues to enhance their offerings for Clients in this space and their growth is also driven by their 2022 launch plans for their unique subsea cable repair solution, AERSUB™, with further announcements expected next year.

Offshore renewables market

The offshore renewables market in Ireland is at an exciting time and presents opportunities for Irish companies with experience in offshore windfarm projects and knowledge of the Irish market. “We are in discussions with windfarm companies who are looking to develop an Irish supply chain, and as a company who worked on the installation of Arklow Bank Windfarm and with experience working on windfarms in the UK, we look forward to offering local knowledge and expertise to the developers and contractors developing the Irish Windfarms,” says Barrett.
