OSIL have supplied two 1.9m buoy platforms, equipped with standalone turbidity sensors, and were on-site for the installation of the buoys in addition to conducting pre-installation monitoring during the build and testing of the buoys. OSIL were able to complete the entire process from quotation to installation (including meeting clients, specifying requirements, building and shipping the buoys) in less than 2 months owing to their wealth of experience in turbidity monitoring for dredging projects. The construction and installation of the buoys itself only took 1 month from receipt of the order.
The buoys are set up to trigger an alarm if one or other of the buoys reports a rise in readings above the predetermined threshold and will provide continuous sediment monitoring during dredging operations. The turbidity monitoring will run in conjunction with other planned mitigation strategies to monitor and protect the marine fauna in the area.
