The 60-tonne subsea structure, designed for an independent Norwegian oil and gas operator, departed from the Port of Immingham ahead of offshore installation in the Norwegian Sea.
Delivered under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) scope, the project has been managed by T12 Engineering, which has offices on Teesside, Glasgow, Edinburgh and, most recently, Oslo. The structure, with a footprint of 59 m², will support mission-critical subsea equipment in a challenging offshore environment.
The project highlights T12 Engineering’s capability to deliver complex subsea infrastructure from concept through to fabrication, assembly and offshore deployment. Drawing on expertise across its multi-disciplinary team, it developed a solution designed to meet the operator’s technical, operational and commercial requirements while ensuring long-term reliability in a demanding offshore environment.
It also reflects T12 Engineering’s continued growth in the Norwegian market following the recent establishment of its Oslo office, strengthening its ability to support operators and energy companies across the North Sea region.
Originally engineered as a modular system that could be transported cost-effectively in standard shipping containers, the structure was also designed for future reuse and adaptation across a range of subsea applications. For this project, however, the GBS was fully assembled on the quayside prior to shipment.
Throughout the concept, detailed design and fabrication stages, T12 Engineering worked closely with its fabrication partner to optimize manufacturability, material efficiency and cost control, while ensuring the structure met the stringent requirements associated with subsea deployment.
Graham Melroy, a director at T12 Engineering, said: “The successful assembly and shipment of the GBS is a major achievement for everyone involved and represents one of the largest projects T12 Engineering has delivered.
“This project demonstrates our ability to deliver complex EPC projects and engineer large-scale subsea infrastructure for international operators. From concept development and detailed design through to fabrication oversight, assembly and shipment, our team has played a key role in every stage of the project lifecycle.
“Seeing the structure finally leave UK shores for Norway is a proud moment for our team and our project partners. It reflects the quality of engineering expertise we have built within T12 and our growing capability to support major offshore developments across the North Sea and beyond.
“Norway is a strategically important market for T12, and the recent opening of our Oslo office strengthens our ability to work closely with operators and partners in the region. Successfully delivering a project of this scale for a Norwegian client is a hugely significant milestone as we continue to expand our international footprint.”
The project was completed with a strong safety performance, recording zero lost time injuries (LTIs) across all engineering, fabrication, assembly and loadout activities.
Once installed, the structure will meet the operator’s internal quality assurance and HSE requirements, alongside relevant DNV and NORSOK standards. T12 Engineering has also delivered a comprehensive documentation and smart data package, providing full traceability across the design, fabrication and testing stages.
