Under the agreement, CRP Subsea will supply 69 NjordGuard cable protection systems to protect the inter-array cables (IACs) for the project’s fixed-bottom wind turbines. Designed to prevent over-bending, abrasion, and fatigue, the NjordGuard systems ensure cable integrity during installation and throughout their operational lifetime. They will provide robust protection as the offshore cables transition from burial in the seabed until they enter the J-tubes at the foundations.
Andy Smith, Head of Sales at CRP Subsea, said: “We are delighted to be working with LS Cable & System on the Fengmiao project. Securing this contract highlights the trust placed in our NjordGuard technology to deliver reliable, long-term cable protection in demanding offshore environments. Taiwan is an important and growing market for offshore wind, and we are proud that our solutions will play a key role in supporting the region’s clean energy ambitions.”
The NjordGuard systems will be manufactured at CRP Subsea’s purpose-built manufacturing facility in the Northwest of England. This industry-leading facility includes a state-of-the-art semi-automated production line that significantly increases output capacity. Project engineering works will commence immediately, with final delivery scheduled for January 2027.
The Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm, located approximately 35 km off the coast of Taichung in the Taiwan Strait, is a landmark renewable energy project with a planned capacity of 495 MW. It will feature 33 Vestas 15 MW turbines. Construction is under way and expected to be completed in 2027. Once complete, Fengmiao will make a significant contribution to Taiwan’s renewable energy targets, supplying clean electricity to large energy users and helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
NjordGuard is an integrated cable protection system for offshore wind farm power cables, designed to protect against abrasion and over-bending. Manufactured from API-qualified materials, it offers exceptional durability and easy assembly onboard installation vessels, with compatibility across both monopile and J-tube interfaces. Its use of API 17L-certified Uraduct® material ensures excellent seabed wear resistance, minimizing the need for additional rock stabilization.
