In collaboration with SGRE, the crew of Vole au vent installed the 61 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines between the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier in the Atlantic Ocean. Installation works began in May 2025 and were successfully completed this week.
Key Milestone for France’s Energy Targets
France’s maritime domain spans 11 million km², making it the second largest globally. The country has outlined ambitious plans to harness this potential, targeting an increase in offshore capacity from 1.5 GW today to an additional 40 GW. The completion of the Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier wind farm, adding 500 MW of capacity, represents an important step in that direction.
“Jan De Nul previously played a key role in the development of France’s very first offshore wind farm, Saint-Nazaire. Now that the Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier wind farm has been completed, Vole au vent is heading to Le Tréport, where the vessel will contribute to the construction of a new EMYN wind farm in the coming months. We are proud to support the energy transition and contribute to Europe’s energy independence in this way,” said Angeliki Ntikmpasani, Project Manager.
