Anadarko Peru’s 6,018 km² Seismic Survey Paves Way for Deepwater Drilling

Anadarko Peru, operator of Blocks Z-61, Z-62, and Z-63, located in the Trujillo Basin, informed PERUPETRO of its decision to move forward to the Third Exploratory Period, which includes drilling its first well in Block Z-62. This decision confirms the continuation of its deepwater exploration project off the coasts of La Libertad and Lambayeque, in northern Peru.

Its advance to the Third Exploratory Period is backed by the results of 3D marine seismic studies conducted by Anadarko Peru in 2024, which covered a survey area of 6,018 km², the largest in the history of the Pacific coast.

Seismic acquisition, a key method in oil and gas exploration, made it possible to determine the geological characteristics of the marine subsurface in order to identify potential hydrocarbon presence in the area.

Drilling of the first exploratory well is planned for 2027, and its results will be crucial to confirming the hydrocarbon potential identified in the marine seismic studies, which required an investment of approximately $40 million.

The Trujillo Basin holds significant undiscovered potential, and if the exploratory work carried out in the basin proves favorable, Peru could be facing a major discovery that would transform the country’s hydrocarbon trade deficit.

With the decision to move forward to the Third Exploratory Period, Anadarko Peru reaffirms the continuity of its investments in the country and its commitment to national energy development.
