The new website, www.seastar-tidal.eu, serves as a comprehensive resource for stakeholders and the public to keep updated on the status of the SEASTAR project.
The SEASTAR project builds on the success of Nova‘s previous six-turbine array in Shetland. Leveraging Nova’s proven turbine technology, SEASTAR will deploy a large-scale tidal array at the EMEC Fall of Warness tidal site in Orkney, home to the second strongest tidal currents across the globe. Jointly funded by the EU Horizon Europe program and the UKRI, the project will run from December 2023 to February 2029.
SEASTAR marks a significant advancement in tidal energy; it will showcase largescale manufacturing, operation, and maintenance techniques for the first time. The project will do this throughout the entire lifecycle of the tidal farm: from design and production, to shipping, deployment and operation. It also provides unique opportunities to address critical environmental evidence gaps and develop cost-effective, reliable, renewable energy technology—thus removing barriers for future large tidal farms.
Key features of the SEASTAR project website include:
- Project Overviews: Detailed descriptions of the SEASTAR project’s mission, objectives, and the work plan.
- Tidal Energy: Introducing tidal energy technology, underlining the benefits and impacts the project will bring to the tidal sector, the local community and the global drive towards sustainability.
- Sustainability: A dedicated section proudly displaying SEASTAR’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), instilling a sense of reassurance and confidence in the project’s environmental responsibility.
- Document Library: Access to essential public reports when they are available, such as the tidal product pathway, environmental assessments, and other valuable deployment results, etc.
