Project InSPIRE Commences

TechnipFMC and Bombora have entered into a partnership to develop an offshore energy platform, integrating wind with the innovative mWave technology.

Bombora and TechnipFMC are now forming a consortium to develop the 12MW platform at an established European test site. The consortium will include an energy company, academic leaders and industry professionals.

InSPIRE will validate the competitive Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) target for an integrated floating wave and wind platform to below €50/MWh by 2030.

The project will also demonstrate the advantages of combining wind and wave resources to produce more dispatchable power.

Phase 1: 12MW InSPIRE – Demonstrator

  • Design and build Integrated mWave (4MW) and wind turbine (8MW) on a shared floating platform
  • Test at pre-consented site
  • Prove benefits of integrating offshore wave and wind
  • Confirm LCOE for commercial scale project
  • Validate the floating mWave and wind platform numerical model

Phase 2: 18MW InSPIRE – Commercial

Integrated mWave (6MW) and wind turbine (12MW) on a shared floating platform.
