SAR Gruppen Boosts Norwegian Drilling Waste Capacity with TWMA RotoMill Technology

SAR Gruppen and TWMA, respective specialists in drilling waste management, have entered into a contract that will strengthen drilling waste services for operators on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Through the agreement, TWMA will install its RotoMill® technology at SAR Gruppen's facility in Risavika, Tananger, increasing local treatment capacity and supporting a more efficient, integrated service for customers operating offshore.

Once operational, the RotoMill® unit will increase processing capacity at the facility by up to 50%, providing SAR Gruppen with greater flexibility to manage drilling waste volumes from offshore operations. The installation will be integrated into the company’s existing treatment infrastructure and is expected to become operational later this month.

The agreement will also support an integrated drill cuttings handling service. The combination of both companies’ portfolios will provide operators with a proven solution to transport drill cuttings from offshore rigs to the Risavika facility, where they can be transferred directly into the treatment process without intermediate lifting operations. Removing these additional handling stages reduces vessel turnaround times, improves operational efficiency, and simplifies the movement of drilling waste from offshore operations through to treatment.

Halle Aslaksen, CEO of TWMA, said: “Operators across the Norwegian Continental Shelf need access to reliable treatment capacity and more efficient ways to move drill cuttings from offshore operations through to processing. This agreement brings together TWMA’s treatment technology and SAR Gruppen’s leading waste treatment infrastructure in Norway to address that need, delivering an integrated, efficient solution while further strengthening our presence in this strategically important market.”

The investment comes at a time when activity across the Norwegian Continental Shelf remains high. The Norwegian Offshore Directorate expects around 40 exploration wells to be drilled in 2026, while Statistics Norway estimates oil and gas investment will reach NOK 266 billion during the year. Against this backdrop, the collaboration strengthens critical waste treatment infrastructure and gives operators greater access to flexible, efficient, and reliable capacity.

Tor Olav Schibevaag, CEO of SAR Gruppen, said: “Our customers depend on solutions that are safe, efficient, and able to support demanding offshore operations. By partnering with TWMA and bringing RotoMill® technology to Risavika, we are strengthening our ability to help customers manage greater drilling waste volumes with less handling and improved operational flow. This is a positive step for the market, for our customers and for the development of a more sustainable value chain. Collaboration is central to how we create value, and this agreement supports SAR’s mission of turning waste into value.”
