This commitment comes at a critical juncture in addressing the export sector’s demands for renewable power while signaling a major step forward in both Taiwan’s energy transition and the broader push for sustainability across the Asia-Pacific region.
Lucas Lin, Chairperson of SRE, stated, “As a leading offshore wind developer in Taiwan, SRE understands the pressing demands for green power among semiconductor and other export-oriented industries and fully supports Taiwan’s renewable energy targets for 2030.”
“We are grateful to the central authorities, local government, and relevant stakeholders for their recognition and support of Formosa 6. Moving forward, our team will adhere to regulatory requirements and work collaboratively with all partners to overcome challenges in our journey toward a sustainable future,” Lin continued.
Formosa 6 will be located off the coast of Xianxi Township, Changhua County, marking SRE’s first venture into central Taiwan. The site spans approximately 84 square kilometers, with the nearest distance to shore being around 35 kilometers. The project secured 800 MW development capacity in the second auction of Phase 3 Zonal Development of Offshore Wind. Once operational and connected to the grid, the wind farm is expected to power about 860,000 households.
