COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian) is upgrading the Maromba FPSO—formerly named FPSO Polvo—for oil and gas operator BW Energy. This approach significantly reduces capital expenditure compared to newbuild solutions, enabling faster execution and improved project economics.

TMC’s scope of supply includes the provision of a high-capacity marine compressed air system, including service and control air compressors, air dryers, filters, and control system, to the FPSO.

The hull of FPSO Maromba began life as a trading tanker before its first conversion into an FPSO for Brazil’s Polvo field in 2007. The vessel is now being prepared for its third phase of life.

“We actually delivered the marine compressed air system to the FPSO Polvo 20 years ago, so it is a huge compliment that they return to us to support this upgrade. The FPSO Maromba requires more modern and energy-efficient technologies with slightly higher capacity. We look forward to delivering this,” said Hans-Petter Tanum, TMC’s Director of Sales and Business Development.

TMC’s compressors are built on a technology platform that enables low energy consumption, low operating costs and low emissions to air. Further, it is designed in a way that allows the on-board crew to maintain the compressors themselves, without an external service technician.

Upon completion, the 340.6-meter-long FPSO will be deployed on the Maromba field in Brazil’s Campos basin.

TMC, which is headquartered in Oslo, Norway, has not disclosed the value of the contract.
