OceanPact Expands Port of Açu Footprint for Offshore Vessel Support

The Port of Açu and OceanPact have signed a letter of intent to expand the area occupied by the company at the port and industrial complex in São João da Barra, Rio de Janeiro State. The agreement, signed on Thursday, September 24, during the ROG.e trade show in Rio de Janeiro, aims to expand OceanPact's operational capacity and strengthen infrastructure supporting the oil and gas supply chain in the region.

The agreement provides for the immediate addition of around 27,000 m² to OceanPact’s existing 45,000 m² area at the port. Additionally, the document grants the company the right of first refusal to incorporate a further 60,000 m², including approximately 100 meters of channel access. The planned expansion will enable the development of a private quay up to 300 meters long to serve support and offshore service vessels.

Present at the Port of Açu since 2014, OceanPact uses the complex’s infrastructure as a strategic base for environmental emergency response operations, maritime support, and subsea services.

“This partnership opens up new development opportunities and strengthens Açu’s position as a strategic platform for the oil and gas industry. OceanPact’s decision to expand its presence at the complex reinforces our ability to provide infrastructure and flexibility to companies that need to grow in line with evolving demand,” said Eugenio Figueiredo, CEO of the Port of Açu.

“Our partnership with the Port of Açu continues to grow stronger and enables us to expand our activities to meet growing demand in the sector. This project will boost our capacity, and it demonstrates Açu’s strategic position as a port and logistics hub,” said Érik Cunha, OceanPact’s CCO.

Located off the Campos Basin, the Port of Açu is home to the world’s largest offshore support base. The facility serves the entire oil and gas value chain, from exploration to platform decommissioning. The Açu port complex handles more than 30% of Brazil’s oil exports. In addition, the port leads initiatives supporting the energy transition in the maritime sector, integrating solutions for berth electrification, low-emission fuel testing, and sustainable vessel recycling.
