With the STX France shipyards and the Nantes-Saint-Nazaire Port, the Pays de la Loire region boasts a long maritime tradition. Bolstered by this historical expertise in the maritime sector, regional stakeholders have set their sights on becoming European leaders in ocean energy. The region is already home to big players such as DCNS, technology developers such as Geps Techno and engineering and academic know-how, in the form of the West Atlantic Marine Energy Center.
The Pays de la Loire regional authority is committed to boosting innovation in ocean energy and has recently made significant investments in infrastructure and testing facilities, such as the SEMREV multi-technologies test site, the test tank at Centrale Nantes, the Industrial Center of Virtual Reality and Technocampus Ocean.
The Ocean Energy Europe Conference & Exhibition has grown to be the leading European event on ocean energy. The event regularly features a host of CEOs and VPs from leading industry players alongside ministers and decision-makers. With a lively commercial exhibition, the latest business intelligence, and numerous networking and side events, the 2017 edition is set to strengthen the event’s reputation as a place to do business.
Bruno Retailleau, the President of the Regional Council of Pays de la Loire, said, “We are pleased to welcome the forthcoming edition of the Ocean Energy Europe annual event to Nantes, in Pays de la Loire. Bringing the event to Nantes acknowledges the huge efforts of regional stakeholders, over many years, to make ocean energy an industrial reality.”
Rémi Gruet, CEO of Ocean Energy Europe, also commented, “We are delighted to bring OEE2017 to Pays de la Loire, a region which is a hub of activity for our industry, thanks to its world-class infrastructure, innovative local companies and strong political support.”
