Sentinel Proactive Launches Dynamic Protection Zones to Safeguard Moving Offshore Operations

Sentinel Proactive announced Dynamic Protection Zones, a new capability that establishes continuously moving geofences around vessels engaged in offshore construction and subsea infrastructure work—including cable and interconnector laying vessels, tug-and-barge units, heavy-lift ships, jack-up installation vessels, and UXO (unexploded ordnance) clearance operations.

The system delivers proactive, real-time alerting that prevents maritime incursions and operational disruptions before they occur—helping safeguard assets, crews, and project timelines across the offshore wind, power transmission, telecommunications, and energy sectors.

“Dynamic Protection Zones bring proactive protection to the heart of moving offshore operations,” said Duncan Richards, Director at Sentinel Proactive. “By placing a live, mobile safety buffer around critical vessels and sending verified alerts directly to vessels, we’re helping operators prevent incidents, protect crews, and keep projects on schedule.”

Raising the Bar for Offshore Wind Safety

Offshore wind construction depends on complex marine logistics where multiple vessels operate in proximity and under time pressure. Research shows that 65% of marine incidents stem from human error—often due to missed navigational warnings or unheeded safety broadcasts.

By extending Sentinel Proactive’s core strengths—proactive prevention, always-on coverage, and reliable automation—to moving operations, Dynamic Protection Zones help operators:

  • Reduce risk and cost during cable laying, heavy-lift transport, jack-up installation, or UXO clearing.
  • Protect crews and assets by maintaining a live safety perimeter around restricted-maneuverability vessels.
  • Avoid schedule delays caused by vessel interference or operational stand-downs.
  • Provide auditable proof of every alert and navigational warning sent.

Studies have shown that proactive monitoring technologies can reduce incident risk by more than 80%, giving operators and authorities greater confidence in operational safety and compliance.

How it Works

Live geofencing: A protection zone dynamically follows the vessel’s position and heading in real time.

  • Behavior-based monitoring: Sentinel Proactive evaluates vessel proximity and behavior, automatically issuing alerts before a situation escalates.
  • Direct-to-bridge alerts: AIS safety messages appear on other vessels’ navigation screens, ensuring visibility where immediate action is needed.
  • Secure audit trail: All movements and alerts are logged within Sentinel Proactive, providing a transparent record for verification and reporting.

Built for Demanding Marine Environments

Sentinel Proactive combines proactive, 24/7 monitoring with automated, verifiable alerting designed for critical offshore industries, including offshore wind, subsea cables, oil & gas, ports, and terminals. The platform integrates hardware and software, operates independently of client IT/OT systems, and supports multi-layer proactive protection alongside radar, aerial surveillance, and rapid-response assets.
