The investment supports CSignum’s mission to become an indispensable enabler of AI in the physical world, extending reliable data communications to underwater and below-ground environments that have historically been impossible to connect.
Archangels, PXN Ventures, Scottish Enterprise, British Business Bank, and a group of US-based angel investors have provided additional investment, reflecting their continued confidence in CSignum’s technology and momentum in multiple markets.
Funding will be used to support commercial expansion and manufacturing scale-up. Since completing a £6 million investment with the existing investor group in April 2025, CSignum has moved from pilot projects into volume deployments with multiple UK water utilities and international customers.
Growth in sales has been underpinned by the UK Section 82 (AMP8) Act requiring continuous water quality measurements at combined storm overflows (CSOs) and at sewage discharge points. Utilities must monitor 25% of England’s 14,000-plus CSOs during AMP8 (to 2030), with the balance of sites being monitored under AMP9 (to 2035). CSignum now has deployments with several UK water utility companies.
CSignum is exploring other strategic opportunities for its unique wireless through-water and through-ground communications technology, and is enabling new sensing capabilities in a “smart buoy” project in the Gulf of Mexico. The company has also completed successful pilots with two major US water quality monitoring organizations and is supporting through-ground sensing for a large-scale, critical infrastructure project in Asia.
CSignum also confirms that John Nicholls has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Jonathan Reeves, a successful US-based technology entrepreneur. Jon will transition to the role of Chief Strategy Officer. Nicholls brings broad experience as both CEO and Chief Commercial Officer in international sales growth, fundraising, M&A, and strategic partnerships across a wide range of market sectors including photonics, quantum technologies, space, semiconductors, and EV infrastructure.
