The topside facilities encompass the full scope of process systems required for FLNG operations, including SENSE, which was developed by SHI to cool natural gas to extremely low temperatures for storage and transportation, a core function of FLNG units. SENSE has previously obtained AIP from ABS, and this latest AIP and BDR confirmed SHI’s own design development (FEED) was feasible for the intended application. The BDR consisted of a more detailed technical review against ABS Rules and requirements.
“The development of new liquefaction technologies is a meaningful step for the FLNG supply chain. ABS is proud to support SHI as this review serves as a foundation to move this technology from concept toward real project deployment,” said Matt Tremblay, ABS Senior Vice President, Global Markets.
“This ABS approval validates Samsung Heavy Industries’ proprietary SENSE liquefaction technology and our comprehensive engineering capabilities. It establishes a strong foundation for us to independently execute complete FLNG EPC projects,” said Joonho Min, Vice President, Offshore Engineering Team, Samsung Heavy Industries.
As technologies continue to evolve rapidly, ABS is supporting the safe and effective deployment of new systems in the fast-growing FLNG sector.
