General Dynamics Mission Systems Wins Contract to Develop SLCM-N Fire Control Subsystem

General Dynamics Mission Systems was awarded a $194 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract modification for engineering and technical work on the US Navy's Nuclear-Armed, Sea-Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM-N) Fire Control Subsystem.

The SLCM-N Fire Control Subsystem is being developed to provide the systems needed to integrate the US Navy’s future nuclear-armed sea-launched cruise missile aboard the Virginia-class submarine platform.

“General Dynamics Mission Systems serves as prime integrator for the Trident II Fire Control System and brings more than seven decades of experience delivering strategic systems for the US submarine force, along with a longstanding commitment to developing solutions that ensure the highest safety standards are incorporated into fielded systems,” said Dr. Laura Hooks, Vice President and General Manager of the Maritime and Strategic Systems business at General Dynamics Mission Systems.

“SLCM-N is a national priority, and the Navy requires this deterrence capability on an accelerated timeline. We recognize the responsibility of developing a safe and reliable subsystem for a program that will strengthen sea-based strategic deterrence. Our team will draw on its expertise in weapon control, mission planning, platform integration, and system test to carry it through development and integration,” continued Hooks.

Work began in April 2026 under an undefinitized contract action (UCA) and will continue through September 2028. Approximately 75% of the work will be performed in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, with the remaining 25% being performed in Manassas, Virginia.

This award will add approximately 200 positions across Pittsfield and Manassas primarily in engineering and manufacturing.

General Dynamics has invested significantly in relevant internal research and development and is making an additional $1.3 million capital investment in facility modifications at its Pittsfield and Manassas locations to accommodate SLCM-N work. These investments build on General Dynamics’ proven performance on strategic deterrence programs and expand the company’s Fire Control engineering and test capacity.
