Saipem is responsible for the offshore execution scope of the project. For Jan De Nul, it is the first time the company is involved in a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project that captures CO2 emissions from industrial facilities before they enter the atmosphere. The CO2 is compressed and transported through a network of pipelines to a storage location under the North Sea, where it is injected thousands of meters deep into porous rock formations.

Northern Endurance Partnership will capture CO2 from the industrial areas of Teesside and Humber, on the east coast of England. Jan De Nul is responsible for protecting the pipeline, which has a diameter of one meter, on the seabed of the North Sea. Using our rock installation vessel Simon Stevin, the company will install rock over the coming months. Jan De Nul does this with a vertical fall pipe system that places the rock with high precision on the seabed at depths of 30 to 60 meters.
