Vigor Marine MHI Norfolk Returns USS Mesa Verde to Fleet After SRA

Vigor Marine MHI Norfolk has successfully completed a selected restricted availability (SRA) on the US Navy's USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) at the MHI shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia, returning the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock to operational condition.

The project included in-plant work at MHI Norfolk, followed by work at Naval Station Norfolk to prepare the vessel for sea trials and return to operational condition. Approximately 500 skilled workers supported the project, contributing more than 560,000 manhours.

The complex availability required close coordination with the U.S. Navy and numerous subcontractors. Major work included repairs and modernization of all five ship service diesel generators, dozens of combat systems electronic upgrades, structural modifications, firemain and auxiliary seawater system repairs, and preservation work throughout the vessel.

In addition to USS Mesa Verde, work continues for USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) at Swan Island, USS New York (LPD 21) at MHI Norfolk, as well as USS Kidd (DD-661) at the Harbor Island shipyard in Seattle.
