MONET spans 10,556 km between the United States and Brazil, while SACS bridges Brazil to Angola as the first South Atlantic crossing with 6,165 km. By combining these systems, data can travel directly between Angola and the United States in a 130-millisecond round-trip delay (RTD). Ciena’s technology will enable Angola Cables to support surging bandwidth demands driven by data-intensive AI models and cloud services. The solutions will also help Angola Cables simplify network operations through innovative software control and management capabilities.

Angola Cables will deploy Ciena’s Waveserver powered by WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e), 6500 Packet-Optical platform, and Navigator Network Control Suite to increase the capacity and performance of its existing subsea network while creating more flexible route options for hyperscale, cloud, wholesale, content, and enterprise customers. The deployment will help Angola Cables deliver high-capacity connectivity across key routes linking the United States, Brazil, and Africa, including 800G client interfaces on MONET.

This network upgrade will give Angola Cables the ability to offer customers diverse, high-capacity, and resilient routes. The deployment builds on Angola Cables’ previous use of Ciena technology across its subsea network. Ciena’s solution further enhances the network’s flexibility and scalability, allowing capacities ranging from a single 100 Gbps to a full fiber pair, catering to a wide range of connectivity needs, including spectrum and MOFN (Managed Optical Fiber Networks).
