Endorsed since 2023 by the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the Alliance is one of the first to receive this prestigious recognition, highlighting its contribution to ocean sustainability through collaboration between industry and science. This collaborative approach has fostered greater environmental awareness across operational teams and demonstrates how offshore assets can contribute to ocean stewardship while delivering critical energy infrastructure.

The Alliance has helped enable offshore personnel to become active contributors to ocean science. Through collaboration between offshore crews, ROV pilots, engineers, scientists, and environmental specialists, the BORA Blue Ocean Research Alliance creates opportunities for people working offshore to participate directly in environmental monitoring and data collection.

The nomination highlights:

  • Transforming routine offshore operations into opportunities for ocean science and biodiversity data collection
  • Partnering with the NOC to advance marine research and understanding
  • Achieving endorsement from the UN Ocean Decade as one of the first Industry/Science Alliances to receive this recognition
  • Driving innovative ocean monitoring through initiatives including Eyes in the Ocean, BORAbox®, eDNA, and acoustic monitoring

This recognition reflects the enthusiasm, expertise, and commitment of everyone involved in the Alliance. It is also an excellent opportunity to showcase the environmental and scientific impact of the work, raise the profile of the BORA Blue Ocean Research Alliance®, and gain wider recognition across the offshore wind industry.
