Fugro becomes the first customer to purchase this new technology from Exail. Recently unveiled at the Ocean Business exhibition, the Rovins 9 DVL integrates Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) technologies to deliver highly accurate and reliable subsea positioning and velocity measurements.
With decades of experience in providing offshore surveying services, Fugro is well-known for its commitment to using cutting-edge technology to improve the accuracy and efficiency of its operations. The company’s decision to purchase Exail’s new Rovins 9 DVL system reflects its ongoing efforts to stay at the forefront of the industry and provide its clients with the highest level of service.
“The new Rovins 9 DVL will be integrated into the Fugro fleet across our wide range of ROVs. The compactness of the unit allows us to integrate state-of-the-art technology into our small inspection ROV systems as well as our WROV systems. This will improve our execution of projects through accurate precision of positioning and stability accuracy” said Craig Crawford, Senior ROV Project Engineer at Fugro. “In a period of intense and accelerating change, we as a leading company in a demanding industry look at every opportunity to stay ahead of the technology curve to provide our clients with the most accurate data possible. The Rovins 9 DVL will be utilised throughout a wide range of scopes, including inspection, survey, construction and renewable projects.”
Embedding Exail’s INS based on the highly compact and high-performance IMU UmiX, with the Nortek DVL500-Compact, the Rovins 9 DVL system allows for improved subsea navigation compared to traditional methods. By combining both technologies, the system can provide highly accurate estimates of a vehicle’s position and velocity even in challenging conditions up to 6,000 m water depth. Pre-calibrated and plug-and-play, the Rovins 9 DVL makes deployment faster and more cost-effective by featuring a unique compact horizontal design allowing for easy integration into all types of subsea platforms, as well as new electronic control units enabling self-alignment in motion.
“We are delighted to have Fugro as our first client for this new navigation system,” said Maverick Piccininni, Regional Sales Manager, at Exail. “The partnership between Exail and Fugro continues to strengthen, and we are proud to be able to provide them with a solution that will enhance their capabilities even further. The Rovins 9 DVL merges the top navigation technologies available today. With its unique design and compactness, it’s the ultimate tool for subsea companies looking to maximize efficiency and success. We are convinced that it will greatly help Fugro to push the boundaries of what is possible in underwater surveying.”
