Omega Subsea Expands NKT Partnership with Another CLV Contract

Omega Subsea has secured another five-year agreement with NKT for its newbuild cable-laying vessel, Eleonora, following the five-year contract announced last June for NKT Victoria. Mobilization activities are currently underway at shipyards in Ulsteinvik and Brattvåg, marking a significant milestone in the company's continued expansion into the offshore cable installation sector.

For Omega Subsea, the contracts with NKT further strengthen Omega Subsea’s strategic focus on delivering ROV services to the offshore cable installation and marine infrastructure market.

“Cable installation is a market characterized by long-term demand and significant growth potential. We will continue to be a broad subsea service provider, while strengthening our position in areas where we see sustained activity and long-term opportunities,” said Berge.

The agreements form part of a wider investment program, with Omega Subsea’s total ROV fleet set to exceed 30 systems by mid-2028.

Of the eight new Kystdesign ROV systems scheduled for delivery in 2026, four will be deployed on NKT projects. New ROV systems will be mobilized on both NKT Victoria and NKT Eleonora this autumn.

On board NKT Victoria, Omega Subsea will also supply two Launch and Recovery Systems (LARS) from Ulmatec. The systems will be installed in the vessel’s hangar and configured to support operations with the company’s two new ROVs.

NKT Eleonora is a new cable-laying vessel with the capacity to carry more than 23,000 tonnes of cable. The vessel is expected to enter service in 2027 and will support high-voltage power cable projects across Europe. Designed by Salt Ship Design, the vessel is being built and outfitted by VARD on behalf of NKT.

NKT Victoria has been in operation since 2017 and was purpose-built for offshore high-voltage cable installation. Following recent upgrades, the vessel can now carry up to 11,000 tonnes of cable and offers enhanced positioning capabilities and greater installation flexibility.

The NKT projects will also generate demand for additional personnel. Operations on NKT Victoria are scheduled to commence before year-end, while mobilization of ROV systems on NKT Eleonora is expected in January.

Omega Subsea expects to recruit between six and 12 new employees for offshore and onshore positions, while also expanding warehouse and logistics capacity at its Hilleren facility.

“We are currently experiencing a period of significant growth. As we take on greater responsibility within our projects, it is essential that we have the right people, equipment and infrastructure in place. The NKT agreements are a good example of how long-term partnerships enable us to invest confidently and build for future growth,” said Berge.
